چکیده

Auger photoelectron coincidence spectroscopy (APECS) confirms that a substantial part of the lowenergy tail of the L» VV Auger lines of the 3d transition metals is due to intrinsic initialand final-state shake-up/shake-off processes and not just secondary losses. Data were collected for the L» VV Auger lines of pure Cu, Co, and Ni. APECS enables a direct experimental measurement of the initial-state shake-up/shake-off satellites in solid-state Auger spectroscopy. The importance of these effects in Auger spectroscopy as a qualitative and quantitative surface-analysis technique is discussed.

Auger photoelectron coincidence spectroscopy studies: Trends in the L2,3-M4,5M4,5 line shapes across the 3d transition-metal series

The Auger-emission process from solids can be very complex, with a variety of processes producing intensity in the final spectra. The L2,3-M 4,5M 4,5 (L2,3-MM ) Auger spectra of the 3d transition metals, in particular, show many complicating effects. Auger photoelectron coincidence spectroscopy ~APECS! is a technique that can be used to elucidate the source of this complexity. In the APECS expe...

Satellite structure in Auger and ð e ; 2 e Þ spectra of germanium

The interpretation of electron spectroscopy data is often complicated by the presence of satellites. These satellites are either due to different final states reached after the excitation (intrinsic satellites) or due to energy loss experienced by the escaping electron on its way out the target (extrinsic satellites). Unravelling these two contributions in an unambiguous way is difficult. In th...

The simultaneous effect of 3d impurities of transition metals and oxygen vacancy defect on TiO2 anatase and rutile

In this work, the formation of oxygen-vacancy defect in 3d metals-doped TiO2 anatase and rutile structures is first investigated. The systematic calculations of formation energy, crystalline stability, band structure and density of state (DOS) of TiO2 samples of anatase and rutile doped with 3d transition metals with and without oxygen defect is done using FHI-aims as a software package based o...

Relaxation and screening in Auger emission: an explanation for the changes from bandlike to quasi-atomiclike CVV Auger spectra across the transition metal series

Supercell method is used to study the relaxation and screening effects during the Auger transition in metals. Our consideration is based on the assumption that when a core-hole exists long enough before the Auger transition occurs, the occupied valence states relax to screen the core-hole which results in a redistribution of the valence electrons, in particular within the atom that contains the...

Electron-induced KLL Auger electron spectroscopy of Fe, Cu and Ge

KLL Auger spectra excited by electrons with energies in the 30–35 keV range of Fe, Cu and Ge films were measured, using thin free-standing films. It was possible to obtain spectra with an energy resolution of about 1 eV. The observed spectra can not be described satisfactorily by just the multiplet splitting of the final state as calculated for an isolated atom. Additional features, due in part...
